Gaza’s Main Oxygen Facility Faces Shutdown Risk

(MENAFN) Health authorities in Gaza have warned that the sole oxygen production facility serving Gaza City and northern areas could soon cease operations due to technical failures and a lack of backup options under the continuing blockade.

In a statement, the Health Ministry said, “The plant is the primary source of supplying patients with medical oxygen, especially those with chronic conditions, in addition to meeting the needs of health-related civil institutions.”

Officials explained that the facility is under severe strain, with continuous use and heavy demand leading to repeated malfunctions. They cautioned that without alternative systems—unavailable due to restrictions linked to the blockade—the plant may be forced to shut down.

The ministry warned that such a shutdown “threatens a disruption in medical oxygen supplies and exposes patients’ lives to serious risks,” adding that it could result in an “imminent humanitarian disaster.”

Authorities called on international organizations and relevant parties to urgently facilitate the entry of new oxygen-generation equipment and ensure uninterrupted supplies to medical centers in order to safeguard patient care.

The ministry has consistently raised concerns about restrictions on the entry of medicines, equipment, and essential supplies, highlighting the impact on healthcare services and patient safety.

Palestinian officials have also pointed to shortages of spare parts needed to maintain critical infrastructure, including machinery and service vehicles, as another factor worsening the situation.

These developments come amid claims that key provisions of a ceasefire agreement in effect since October 10, 2025—such as opening crossings and allowing agreed levels of humanitarian aid—have not been fully implemented.

According to health data cited in reports, ongoing violations, including shelling and gunfire, have resulted in 818 deaths and 2,301 injuries since the truce came into effect.
