Israeli Defense Minister Says No Withdrawal from Gaza Until Hamas Disarms
The “Yellow Line” marks the boundary to which Israeli forces pulled back in eastern Gaza during the plan’s first phase. Under the second phase, which began last month, Israel is expected to withdraw gradually from this line.
“We will never allow Hamas to remain, not with weapons and not with tunnels. The slogan is simple: until the last tunnel,” Katz said at a conference organized by Yedioth Ahronoth.
He added, “We will not move from the Yellow Line by one millimeter until Hamas is disarmed, from weapons, from tunnels and from other things.”
On Monday, Israeli Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs stated that the government would give Hamas 60 days to disarm, warning that military operations could resume if the group fails to comply.
The conflict began on October 8, 2023, with Israel launching a two-year military campaign in Gaza, supported by the US, which resulted in the deaths of over 72,000 Palestinians, injuries to more than 171,000—mostly women and children—and the destruction of roughly 90% of civilian infrastructure.
Although a ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025, Israel has continued targeted airstrikes and demolitions in various parts of Gaza, actions that critics say violate the agreement.
