Palestinian movement Fatah Names Hussein al-Sheikh as Deputy Leader
The decision was made during the first meeting of the newly formed Central Committee, following internal elections held last month during Fatah’s Eighth General Conference in 2026, spokesperson Iyad Abu Zneit said.
He noted that senior Fatah figure Mahmoud al-Aloul had held the deputy leadership position since 2017, becoming the first person to serve in the role.
With the latest vote, Hussein al-Sheikh becomes the second individual to assume the post of deputy head within the movement.
Fatah had previously announced on 18 May the election of 18 members to its Central Committee and 80 members to its Revolutionary Council as part of the broader restructuring process carried out during the party’s eighth conference.
